Jorge Blanco was born in Caracas, Venezuela. He holds a degree in Industrial Design from the Neumann Institute of Design in Caracas and studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome, Italy. His distinguished career as a sculptor, graphic designer, humorist and illustrator spans more than 30 years. For eighteen years he served as art director for The Caracas Children’s Museum. He currently lives and works in Sarasota, Florida.
For more than a decade, Blanco has directed his efforts to large-scale sculpture installations around the world. His highly saturated primary colors reign with splendor against the landscape. Blanco’s style seems to tell us that art can entertain us and make life more joyful. Blanco’s humor is evident in his sculptures. He is aware of the evolving dialogue established with the viewer. By using carefully calculated geometric forms, he emphasizes planes in his minimalist creations. His background as an industrial designer can be seen in his use of hardware as intrinsic parts of this sculpture.
These brightly painted aluminum sculptures were commissioned by APPI to celebrate the athletic endeavors that take place in Leawood City Park. His works are vibrant and full of optimism, contributing to the cultural development of the community. Blanco’s sculptures make City Park a destination with unlimited potential for sports and art lovers of all ages.
Children participating in Leawood’s soccer program were invited to participate in naming the sculptures.
