The City of Leawood is Only Accepting Electronic Plan Submittals for Building Permits at this time.*

*Permits and Plans can be submitted to CodesAdminGen@leawood.org along with a completed Building Permit Application Form.

Below is a list of “average” time-frames applicants can expect for an application to be approved for permitting. Assuming all applications are completed in full with all required drawings/seals needed with applicable insurance and bonding forms complete and on file. Applicants should be aware that project changes, weather and other circumstances may effect the time turn around for any and all permit applications.

Most application forms are not yet available on the INTERNET. Applicants may contact the individual department for a faxed copy of a blank form. Applicants could then fax a completed form to the Department for consultation on projected “fees”. Many permits are based on the value of the work to be performed also many permits require “original” attachments before a permit can be issued.

Garage Sales

No license or permit is necessary for holding a garage sale, however, sales are limited to two (2) sales per calendar year per location, for no more than four (4) consecutive days during daylight hours.

Tree House / Playhouse Permits

A permit is NOT required to build/install a children’s tree house/playhouse.

Play equipment, including swings, jungle gyms, children’s playhouses, may be allowed anywhere in a rear yard.

Children’s play equipment including playhouses and tree houses cannot exceed 64 square feet in gross floor area. The tree house/playhouse must have a with a maximum door width of 24″ and fifteen (15) feet in total height measured from the ground to the highest point. Only one playhouse is allowed per residence.
