Emergency Preparedness

The purpose of our Emergency Preparedness program is to coordinate the efforts and activities of City employees and elected officials with those of private or volunteer organizations, surrounding jurisdictions, and other government agencies, as necessary to minimize the impact of a major emergency or disaster on the citizens of Leawood.

The most significant threat to the Midwest has always been disasters caused by severe weather such as tornadoes, severe thunderstorms, ice storms, etc.  While this continues to be true, the world has changed significantly since September 11, 2001. We remain a nation at risk to terrorist attacks and will remain at risk for the foreseeable future.

The Leawood Fire Department has overall responsibility for Emergency Preparedness in the City of Leawood. This area of our website should provide specific information about our disaster planning and preparedness efforts, as well as links to other related websites. For additional information or concerns regarding emergency preparedness, don’t hesitate to contact us.

Remember, we must all remain vigilant, prepared, and ready for any disaster or major emergency, be it a terrorist attack, tornado strike, or major winter storm.
