CPR / AED and First Aid Training

In partnership with the Heart of America Metro Fire Chief’s Heartsafe Community and the Johnson County Heartsafe Community, we offer both traditional (certificate) CPR / AED / First Aid training as well as hands-only CPR training.

Hands-Only CPR / AED Training

Hands-only training can be taught very quickly to virtually any size group at any location. A typical class lasts only 15-45 minutes. This training is designed to increase the occurrence of bystander CPR for adult cardiac arrests and to improve cardiac arrest survival rates by getting basic CPR & AED training to as many people as possible. This training does not include child or infant patients and no other areas are covered such as choking or first aid. Note that no certification card is issued.

We can even teach you to be a trainer for this initiative!

For convenience, we pre-schedule a class once per month. Please note that these classes are limited to 30 people each and are first come, first served, based on the online sign-up form. These classes are held at Leawood Fire Station #31 at 9621 Lee Blvd from 9am – 11am on the first Saturday of each month. Note that if that date falls on a holiday, then the class is pushed back a week. There is no fee for this training. Because of this, enrollment is open only to those living, working or volunteering in Leawood.

To enroll in one of these classes, please select the pre-scheduled date you wish to attend and complete all applicable fields in the contact form. Note, if you can select a date, then that class is not yet full. You will receive a confirmation email once your enrollment has been processed.

Traditional CPR / AED and First Aid Training

The Leawood Fire Department also offers more traditional CPR / AED / First Aid training. These are certified classes through the Health & Safety Institute (HSI). These classes generate a certification card which is good for two years. There are two ways to receive this training. For individuals or small groups, we offer pre-scheduled classes described below. If you have a bigger group, then we can often custom schedule a class or classes to accommodate your needs based on our mutual schedules. Note that due to time and infrastructure requirements, this training can only be held at our location.

The Leawood Fire Department currently offers pre-scheduled CPR / AED / First Aid training classes on the first Saturday of every month from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM. If the first Saturday is a holiday, then the class will fall back to the second Saturday.

*Please note: classes will be changing to the first Wednesday of each month, from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM, starting in October of 2024.

Each class typically lasts approximately 3-4 hours. Please note that these classes are limited to 20 people each and are first come, first served, based on the online sign-up form. These classes are held at Leawood Fire Station #31 at 9621 Lee Blvd.

Certification cards are typically emailed out by HSI within a week of the completion date. Note that as these cards are bulk emailed, they are often blocked by free email providers such as Gmail, Yahoo, etc. If more than a week has gone by and you have not received your card, contact us at fire@leawood.org and we can send it directly to you.
