The City of Leawood is Only Accepting Electronic Plan Submittals for Building Permits at this time.*

*Permits and Plans can be submitted to CodesAdminGen@leawood.org along with a completed Building Permit Application Form.

Codes Administration is assigned the duties of administering and enforcing the Building Code, Floodplain, Erosion Control and Development Ordinances. Responsibilities include building code plan review, building permits issuance, building inspections, and enforcement of all permitted activity associated with new and existing buildings.

Codes Administration is located on the 2nd Floor EAST WING of Leawood City Hall. Staff is charged with receiving and issuing all permits for new building construction; including new single-family residential, residential additions and remodels, new commercial buildings, tenant finishes and other commercial remodels, decks, pools & hot tubs, fences, re-roofing, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and elevator permits.

A separate phone line is dedicated to receive inspection requests 24 hours a day via voice mail. The number to call for an inspection on building permits issued from this office is 913-491-4722. Delays in inspections can be avoided by calling the inspection phone number; please do not call the inspector directly to request inspections. NOTE: Items located within the City’s right-of-way are subject to inspection approval from the Public Works Department. Inspection requests for these items can be made by calling 913-663-9130.

Contractor Information

Required Licenses

All contractors doing work within the City must be properly licensed, which includes obtaining a City of Leawood Occupation License.

In addition, all individuals acting as a general contractor, roofing contractor, electrician, plumber, or HVAC contractor must have a valid Johnson County, Kansas Contractor’s License.
