Kids Fishing Derby

Kid’s Fishing Derby

Saturday, April 27; 8:30-10:30am

The Leawood Police and Parks & Recreation Departments are hosting a Kids Fishing Derby for ages 12 and under at the North Lake. Bring the entire family to this fun, FREE event where children can learn to fish in the lake stocked annually with channel cat by the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks. Fish for bluegill and large-mouth bass too!

Mascots – 8:15-8:45
Fishing – 9:00-10:30am
Awards – 10:30am

Stride ‘n Ride

2nd Annual Leawood Family Stride ‘n Ride

Saturday, May 11; 9:00am-1:00pm

Leawood Justice Center – 4201 Town Center Drive

Leawood Parks & Recreation and the Leawood Police Department are excited to announce the 2nd Annual Leawood Family Stride ‘N Ride, an event Encouraging and Educating the community about fitness and healthy transportation.

Make fitness a family affair by learning how to incorporate walking and biking into your family lifestyle to form positive attitudes about getting active and staying healthy!

The event is FREE to attend.  Participants are encouraged to ride their bikes or walk / run to the event.

 

Schedule of Events

9:30am – Trail Etiquette and Family Walks begin (walks will start every 15-20 minutes or based on demand)
10:30am – Kids Fun Run
11:00am – Bike Decorating Contest Judging
11:30am – Kids Fun Run

Ongoing events will include:

Riding skills course for children ages 7-10
Helmet fitting and sales
Bike Demos
Music by DJ Tony
Informational Booths

2019 July 4th Celebration

Featuring Live Music by Flashback

Leawood City Park will be the site for a variety of new and traditional family festivities.  Enjoy some great entertainment, participate in contests / games and enjoy a variety of food vendors.  Parking will not be available in City Park.  There will be free parking along Tomahawk Creek Parkway and free shuttle buses will be available for transportation to and from City Park.  Handicap parking will be available in the park with the display of Handicap Accessible tags or placards

FREE Admission

City Park will be closed to all vehicles on Thursday, July 4. For information on how to get to the park, please see the sections below.

Park and take the shuttle bus

Free shuttle buses will be running from the parking lot of American Academy of Family Physicians and the Leawood Justice Center to City Park starting at 10:00am.

Handicap parking will be available in City Park.  Must have license plate or placard for admission into the park.

Look for the July 4th parking signs along Tomahawk Creek Parkway

Two shuttle stops will be located in the following parking lots

  • American Academy of Family Physicians – 11400 Tomahawk Creek Parkway
  • Leawood Justice Center – 4201 Town Center Drive

Park and walk

Are you considering walking to the park?

Grab your walking shoes, flashlight, wagon and go!

Look for the Park & Walk Signs and park in the North Lake Parking lot (located on the east side of Tomahawk Creek Parkway).  Skip the shuttle line at the end of the night! We will have solar lighting guiding you along the trail to College Boulevard.  Be sure to bring a flashlight for a little extra lighting as you walk along the trail to your vehicle.  Reflective signage will point the way!
