POLICE ADMINISTRATION

Police Chief John Meier joined the department in September 2005 as the Deputy Chief after a 27-year career with the Lenexa, KS, Police Department. Chief Meier took command of the department in December of 2006. He is a graduate of the 146th Session of the FBI National Academy and has a Masters Degree in Public Administration from the University of Kansas. Contact Chief Meier by e-mail.

Maj Troy Rettig

Major Troy Rettig is the Deputy Chief of Police and Support Services Division commander, which includes the department’s Investigations, Community Education and Traffic Management units. Maj. Rettig, who joined the department in 1993, is a 2005 graduate of the Southern Police Institute and a graduate of the 229th Session of the FBI National Academy. Contact Major Rettig by e-mail.

Captain Dale Finger is the Administrative Services Division commander, supervising the department’s budget and resources as well as its civilian employees. Capt. Finger joined the department in 2006 after a 32-year career with the Kansas Bureau of Investigations (KBI), serving the last 16 years as Associate Director. He is a graduate of the 173rd Session of the FBI National Academy and has a Masters of Public Administration from the University of Kansas. Capt. Lt Kevin Cauley

Lt. Kevin Cauley is the Operations Division commander. A 2006 graduate of the Southern Police Institute and a 2007 graduate of Park University with a degree in Criminal Justice, Lt. Cauley joined the department in 1992. He has served as a Field Training Officer, and a Drug and Gang Specialist for the department and was one of three officers to develop the department’s Cooper Institute-based physical training program. He has been recognized as the department’s Officer of the Year and is a past recipient of the silver award for valor by the Metro Police Chiefs and Sheriffs Association. Contact Lt. Sergeant Tom Hogard is the Professional Standards Officer. He started his career with the Johnson County Park Police in 1978 and moved to the Gardner Police Department in 1980 before joining the Leawood Police Department in 1984. After several years of service in the Patrol Division, Sgt. Hogard started the Traffic Management Unit in 1994 as a Corporal. He was promoted to Sergeant in 1998. Sgt. Hogard is a certified instructor in Standardized Field Sobriety Testing (SFST) and serves on both the Kansas SFST Advisory Board and the KDHE's Breath Alcohol Program panel. Outside the department he has been a member of the Brookwood School Site Council, Treasurer and former President of the Leawood Lions Club, and he was a longtime officer of the Kansas City Woodworker's Guild.
