What
is the
Storm Sewer Management System?
The Storm Sewer Management System is a program the City is implementing in order
to evaluate the existing storm sewer system and budget for improvements and repairs.
Each pipe and structure will be rated on several factors, which the program will
combine to give and overall rating. These ratings will be used to determine if
and how soon a storm sewer system needs to be repaired. Once the system is inventoried
(estimated by 2003), the program will model the system and determine if it is
operating efficiently or which portions of the system are undersized and need
to be replaced.
What is currently being done?
The Engineering/Design Division is currently contracting with a firm to survey
all storm sewer curb inlets and manholes. The coordinates of all the storm sewer
structures will be downloaded into GIS to build the storm sewer map.
The Stormwater Maintenance Crew is currently
inspecting each structure, measuring pipe sizes and flow line depths, and cleaning
and televising all of the storm sewer lines. This information is entered into
the Storm Master program to build the database.
