Procedure: The property owner requesting street lights shall provide to the Public Works Department a petition, on a form furnished by the City of Leawood (below), from all property owners on the block requesting street light installation. The Public Works Department shall then prepare plans for the requested installation; stake the exact location of the proposed light; inform every property owner by regular mail of the intent to install street lights, and wait a reasonable time (two (2) weeks) for written concerns. If no objections are received, or all concerns can be resolved, the Director of Public Works will order the lights to be installed.

Petition and Request for Additional Street Lighting

To the Governing body of the City of Leawood, Kansas:

We the undersigned, citizens of the City of Leawood, Kansas, herby PETITION AND REQUEST the City to install new street lights at the following locations:

Subdivision: ________________________________

On the ______ block of ____________between

_____________ Street and ________________ Street,

All within the corporate limits of the City of Leawood, Kansas.

In presenting this PETITION AND REQUEST, we understand and acknowledge that the City does not own nor operate the street lighting system within the City and that Kansas City Power & Light Company does own and operate said system for which is paid by the City.

We further understand and acknowledge that installation of new street lights will require installation of poles, wires, conduits, and other facilities required to provide street lighting service, on private property, and we hereby agree to all reasonable requests to locate and perform installation of facilities on out properties where and when necessary.

We further acknowledge that this PETITION AND REQUEST is not legally binding on any person, corporation, or on the City of Leawood, but that it is merely an expression of the intent on our part in order to secure installation of street lights in the area described above.
