The Leawood Fleet Division continues a tradition of high performance with it’s showing in the American Public Works Association annual Snowplow and Equipment Expo held October 8, 2008.

Fleet Technicians Chris Gish and Chris Skaggs placed 3rd and 5th in a Mechanic’s Competition event yesterday. In fact Chris Skaggs had originally tied for 4th and the decision on placement was the result of a tie-breaker related to order of finish on the written exam.

The event consists of seven different “hands-on” situations covering:

• Electrical
• Safety
• Hydraulics
• Fabrication
• Component troubleshooting
• Tire Failure diagnosis
• Precision measurement
• and a 150 question general knowledge test.

This is one of the only events of its kind held in the US and has contestants representing agencies from all over the Metro area. Leawood has developed a respected reputation as one of the top competitors in this event and has a history going back a long ways with a majority of our former technicians and current Fleet Supervisor finishing in the top five over the years.

This is a positive reflection on Chris Gish, Chris Skaggs, the Fleet Division and the City of Leawood. Congratulations to both!
